A Better Husband- Joining a Challenge Group helped me

A Better Husband

Phil Vogt

I want to give a shout out to past challenger and now fellow Team Beachbody Coach and friend who talked with us at our annual Coach Summit last year about how he needed to be a better husband and the struggle that came with that.   He was overweight and depressed and and began turning to addictions.  Joining a Challenge group, getting support, and following through with proper nutrition and a workout program was able to help him and bring him more happiness, energy, and the ability to be the best husband and Father that he can possibly be.

“I was tired of being tired. I was overweight, depressed, and had absolutely no motivation to do anything rewarding. I was really down on myself and felt like a failure. I turned to nicotine, alcohol and food to fill a void that I felt I couldn’t fill elsewhere. My health and bad choices were effecting me both physically and mentally. My personal relationships in my family were suffering from my poor choices. It was time to make a change for the better and I knew what I was fighting for. I was fighting for my family and most of all? ME! I knew what I NEEDED to do to prevent me from losing my health and my family. I attended coach summit this year and soon realized what I needed to do, but still wasn’t quite ready to make a COMMITMENT to change. On the verge of losing my family I made the change and committed to changing my life for the better both mentally, physically, and spiritually.

I feel amazing since making a COMMITTED decision to CHANGE! I no longer smoke, abuse alcohol, and overeat to numb myself and deal with the depression. I’ve shed some major weight and currently weigh 189. I have seen a major improvement in my health overall and working towards meeting new fitness goals. I sleep better, breathe better, and have an overall better quality of life. The biggest improvement? My marriage and family! They see the changes I have made and it feels good to not be trapped by addictions and poor health choices. The compound effect of my choices now are an overall better outlook on life and most all? I’m happy! Is life perfect? No, but I have learned that faith, fitness, and personal development can and will help change your life for the better!

I have tried a few different Beachbody programs, but never finished any of them, but once I committed myself to becoming the best version of myself I decided to tackle 21 Day Fix Extreme and oh boy was it EXTREME, but I didn’t quit! I learned to not give up and do the best I could with where I was at physically and kept pushing forward! I’m glad I did! I feel great and have a sense of accomplishment for finishing the program! Loved it and will do it again! I’m stronger than I have been in years! I just got to a point where I can run 5 miles. This alone is proof the products work! STRONGER EVERYDAY!

I will always continue this journey to not only help myself, but also to inspire others to make positive changes in their lives. I want people to know they are not alone dealing with depression and addictions. I want to set an example for my children to follow. I want them to look at me and say, “If dad can do it so can I!” Obesity rates are soaring in this country and I know what it feels like to be overweight. I want to be that one person who helps make a difference in the lives of others who struggle with weight, mental, and health issues. There is hope and If I can save only one life on my journey it will all be worth it!”
